A MOOD PIECE, BURBERRY PRORSUM: LET IT SNOW

Best British uber-brand Burberry is about heritage made modern and irresistible, season after season.

For next autumn/winter, Bailey explores different elements of heritage and, as always, the result is the sleekest-chicest-sharpest of them all. Think lumberjack checks in bold colours, a furry cross between berets and riding hats for head candy, a unique spin on a few 1970s basics (tunics, capes and chunky knitwear), and the more daring futu-retro ladylike shapes of the 1960s. But that’s not all: Burberry brings in shift dress almighty, as well as chic monochrome blocking, things Bailey hasn’t touched in living memory.

Tweeds, fur and leather are still going strong, as is sleek military tailoring and detailing. What’s more, Bailey has dug up his designs of the ultra-flattering slim flares of a few years ago (remember those sharp taffeta ones in choc and purple?), so we can’t say the man won’t recycle. And very well he should.

The snowy finale pays a glorious tribute to the most essential of basics, almost always looked over by designers, the PVC mac and the glossy black welly, just in time for a quick final addition to that wish list.

And in the midst of the snow storm, suddenly I can't wait to snuggle up on the white futuristic sofa and catch a glimpse of a few iconic movies... then drift away and dream of colours.
